Web Standards

Web standards is a set of standardized best practices for building web sites and a philosophy of web design and development that includes those methods. Just like buildings have standards to comply to, so do websites.

That's all well and good but what does that actually mean?

  • It means that your website is accessible to more users. Web standards do not discriminate against any users and the website should be usable by anyone with a modern browser.
  • It means your pages download quicker. With web standards, pages are smaller and your site will download and display quicker.
  • It means your website can be updated easier and quicker.
  • It means your website displays better in major search engines. By using the web the way it's intended to be used, websites will display higher on Google and other search engines for your keywords.

Web standards are not just "the right thing", they save you money; money in maintenance costs, money in hosting costs and increased revenue through improved search engine positions.
