Accessibility and Usability
Since February 2002, it has been a legal requirement in the UK for organizations to make reasonable adjustments to ensure their websites are accessible. Many websites continue to be unaccessible, discriminating against users with disabilities, visual problems, older browsers or simply mobile browsers, a rapidly growing market. Over 7% of men suffer from colour blindness and many more have cognitive or physical disabilities, all influence how visitors use your website.
Website authors should be ensuring the following:
- Text is easy to understand
- Text alternatives are provided for all images and multimedia
- All image material and colors are unambiguous to visually impaired users
- Acronyms and abbreviations are explained
- The navigation of the website is logical and easy to follow
Accessibility is a lot more than legal requirements though, by making your site accessible the overall user experience is improved. We will test your website in a wide variety of browsers and operating systems, we ensure colours are used in a way which won't negatively effect on those with visual problems and we write copy to support those with cognitive disabilities.
We believe in making websites simple and intuitive to use for all users. Your users shouldn't have to jump through hoops to complete a call to action, through simple but powerful interfaces and the use of modern technology we build websites which are well designed, usable and accessible by all and a pleasure to use.
